Home Charging Reimbursement
If you charge your fleet vehicle at home, Inspiration's Home Charging Reimbursement service calculates the business portion of your home electricity usage and helps your employer reimburse you fairly. Your employer issues the reimbursement through their normal expense process — Inspiration provides the calculation.
Note: Check your fleet's service passport to confirm enrollment. Not all fleets include this service. Contact your fleet manager to confirm if you're enrolled.
How the reimbursement is calculated
Inspiration uses your vehicle's telematics data (non-personally identifiable) to determine:
Total miles driven during the month
Total energy used for home charging
You submit your personal vs. business mileage split in the Inspiration Driver App each month. Inspiration then calculates:
Business Mileage % × Total Home Charging Energy Used (kWh) × Your State's Average Electricity Rate ($/kWh) = Monthly Reimbursement Amount
For example: 82.5% business × 400 kWh × $0.162/kWh = $53.46 for the month
The state average electricity rate is used unless your fleet manager has specified a different rate.
How to view your reimbursement estimate
Open the Inspiration Driver App and tap Mileage.
Tap on a month you've previously submitted.
Below the mileage allocations, you'll see your reimbursement estimate for that month.
Your employer will pay the reimbursement through the same process they use for other expense reimbursements (payroll, direct deposit, check, etc.).
Submitting your monthly mileage
You must submit your personal and business mileage split each month through the Inspiration Driver App. Once you tap Submit, the submission is locked and cannot be changed through the app.
If you need to correct a submitted entry, contact your fleet manager — they can request a change through Inspiration if your company's policy allows it.
Frequently asked questions
Is the reimbursement amount fair and accurate?
Inspiration uses vehicle telematics data for mileage and energy usage, which is highly accurate. The state average electricity rate is applied unless your fleet manager has configured a custom rate. If you believe there's an error, email [email protected] with your full name, company name, last 6 digits of your VIN, the reason you suspect an error, and any supporting documents (e.g., a photo of your recorded mileage).
I charged at my vacation home or a secondary address. Can I get reimbursed for that?
Reimbursement is currently limited to your primary home address on file in the Inspiration app. If your address is incorrect, contact your fleet manager to request an update.
How do I enroll in Home Charging Reimbursement?
Contact your fleet manager or administrator — enrollment is managed at the fleet level, not by the driver directly.
How do I opt out of the service?
Contact your fleet manager or administrator to opt out.
My home charger isn't working. What do I do?
See the Troubleshoot a Charging Session article in the EV Education section, or contact the charger's hardware manufacturer. If your home charger was installed through Inspiration's Home Charger Installation program, see that article for repair guidance.
