Home Charger Installation

Home Charger Installation

If you've been approved by your employer to have a Level 2 home charger installed, Inspiration coordinates the installation through our partner Treehouse, which connects you with licensed local electricians. You don't need to know anything about electricity — Treehouse guides you through the entire process.

Note: Home charger installation must be authorized by your employer before you begin. Check with your fleet manager first. This service is only available if your company is enrolled.

What's installed

A Level 2 (L2) charger using a 240-volt outlet — the same type used for a clothes dryer. This is the standard for overnight home EV charging and can fully charge most EVs in 4–8 hours depending on battery size and charger amperage.

For drivers who travel fewer than 30 miles per day, a Level 1 (L1) charger using a standard 120-volt outlet may be sufficient. The installer will confirm the best fit for your situation.

How to get started

  1. Look for an email from Treehouse (Inspiration's installation partner) inviting you to the home charger installation portal.

  2. Log into the Treehouse portal — use a mobile device so you can easily upload photos.

  3. Complete the home survey, including photos of your electrical panel and proposed installation location.

  4. Treehouse generates a quote and connects you with a licensed local electrician.

  5. Review and approve the quote if it falls within your company's policy limits.

  6. Schedule your installation appointment with the electrician.

  7. The electrician completes the installation, tests the equipment, and obtains any required permits.

What the installation covers

Treehouse ensures all electricians in their network are licensed, bonded, and insured (current business license, electrical license, liability insurance, workers' comp, and auto insurance). Permit requirements vary by city and county — if required, the installer handles obtaining the permit.

Installation cost

Costs vary based on: labor rates in your area, the distance between your electrical panel and the installation location, and whether a panel upgrade is needed. On average, installation of a 240V NEMA 14-50 outlet plus Level 2 charger hardware runs approximately $2,500 — though it can be significantly higher if panel upgrades or long cable runs are required. Your employer's policy will specify spending limits and what's covered.

After installation

  • The installer will test the charger before leaving to confirm it works.

  • If the charger has an issue after installation (rare), contact the hardware manufacturer first for troubleshooting. If unresolved, contact the electrician who did the installation — they typically provide a workmanship warranty.

  • If your home charger was installed through Inspiration and the issue remains unresolved, contact your fleet manager. Inspiration can coordinate a certified installer to replace the hardware at a standard labor cost.

Frequently asked questions

What if my electrician doesn't show up for the estimate?

Contact the electrician directly first. If you don't hear back, contact Treehouse at 323-577-6790 or [email protected].

Who approves the installation quote?

You can approve quotes that fall within your company's spending policy. Your fleet manager may need to approve anything above the policy threshold. The Treehouse portal will walk you through the approval process.

Do I need a permit?

Permits are required in some cities and counties but not all. If required, the Treehouse-assigned electrician handles the permit on your behalf as part of the installation process.

Will the charger be hardwired or plugged in?

Some cities require Level 2 chargers to be hardwired. Your local electrician will advise based on local requirements.

What if I move after installation?

Refer to your company policy for guidance. The charger is installed at your home and typically stays with the property, but specifics depend on your employer's policy.

The electrician says they're not responsible for drywall repair where they ran wires. What do I do?

Refer to your company policy and escalate to your fleet manager or administrator for resolution.

What are my coverage options if the charger causes damage?

Treehouse-network electricians carry liability insurance, workers' comp, and auto insurance. For specific coverage questions related to your installation, contact Treehouse directly at 323-577-6790 or [email protected]. For post-installation liability questions, refer to your company policy.

What types of homes are eligible?

The most suitable homes are single-family or multi-family buildings with dedicated off-street parking spots and sufficient electrical panel capacity. Your panel will be assessed during the quote process. If an upgrade is needed, it will be included in the quote.
